Visit of His Excellency Philippe Meunier, Ambassador of the French Republic, to the University of Zadar


His Excellency Philippe Meunier and Her Excellency Corinne Meunier, the Ambassadors of the French Republic to Croatia, visited the University of Zadar on Thursday, 27 April 2017. On that occasion they met Full Professor Dijana Vican, the Rector; Associate Professor Nedjeljka Balić-Nižić, Deputy-Rector for Studies and Student Affairs; and Associate Professor  Slaven Zjalić, Deputy Rector for Inter-Institutional Cooperation and Technology Transfer. Beside their Excellencies, the meeting was also attended by Mrs Martine Manavella, attaché for linguistic and educative cooperation of the French Institute in Croatia.

Assistant Professor Tomislav Frleta, Head of the Department of French and Iberoromance Studies, accompanied by a translator, Assistant Porfessor Danijela Ćurko, was also present at the reception in the Rector's Hall.

After welcoming words and introductions, the topics of the conversation included current active academic, scientific, and cultural cooperation, as well as the presence of the French language at the University of Zadar and in the Zadar area. Contentment with the ongoing cooperation was expressed, but also the will to continue, enhance and promote different aspects of cooperation in the future.

The active academic cooperation between the University of Zadar and French universities was also discussed considering the existence of numerous contracts on interuniversity mobility and exchange within the European Erasmus + programme, as well as bilateral cooperation contracts. New joint meetings have been announced, together with propositions to develop and deepen the cooperation in the areas of ecology, aquaculture and maritime affairs.

After the reception in the Rectorate building, the French Ambassadors, their Excellencies, Philippe Meunier and Corinne Meunier, visited the Department of French and Iberoromance Studies, where an occasional meeting with teachers and students was held. Afterwards, they attended the ceremony of the 60th anniversary of the Division of French Language and Literature in the University of Zadar's Great Hall.
