On January 17, 2020, the foundation stone was laid marking the beginning of the construction of a new student restaurant building with student pavilions at the New Campus of the University of Zadar. It will house a total of 284 students. The cornerstone was laid by the students of the University of Zadar, Renato Nović and Gloria Grbić, after which the beginning of the works was symbolically marked by the rector of the University of Zadar, Professor Dijana Vican, Ph. D., and the Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds, Marko Pavić.
A total of 284 students will be housed in the new building. It will have three accommodation pavilions with a total of 129 rooms: six single, 91 double and 32 triple rooms. The student restaurant will have 500 seats, serving 3.800 meals a day. Students will be provided with a special study area, lounge, laundry room, pantry, kitchenettes, patisserie and more.
Construction of the student restaurant with student pavilions is only the first step in raising the quality of the student life and standard at the University of Zadar, proving to be a significant higher education, scientific, economic, social and cultural factor in the City of Zadar and Zadar County, as well as in Croatia.
The project is co-financed through the Grant Agreement for the project "Student accommodation ad restaurant at the New Campus of the University of Zadar KK09.1.2.01.0015, funded through the MRDFEU Call Modernization, improvement and expansion of student accommodation infrastructure for disadvantaged students" published within the "Operative program Competitiveness and cohesion 2014 – 2020".
The University of Zadar has been granted total of HRK 67,433,433.38 for the implementation of the Project, and the total approved value of the project is HRK 74,480,127.22. The University provided the difference in funding from the Ministry of Science and Education in the amount of HRK 13,985,015.15 and from the City of Zadar in the amount of HRK 6,236,223.70.
