Beginning of the International and Interdisciplinary Scientific Symposium on Transition

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the International and Interdisciplinary Scientific Symposium „Transitions: the fall of the Berlin Wall – the disintegration of the Eastern Block - Croatia as a special case?“, sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Zagreb, will be held today and tomorrow in the Great Hall of the University of Zadar.

Associate Professor Leonardo Marušić held a welcoming speech, expressing his pleasure that the University of Zadar was chosen as the venue for such a significant conference.

Rudolf Dvorski, the deputy of the prefect Stipe Zrilić, extended a cordial welcome to all the participants and referred to the importance of congress tourism. The town of Zadar has been building its reputation as a vacation spot, but has been gradually trying to establish itself as a congress resort.  This branch of tourism is an exceptionally important part of the tourism industry because it enables the extension of the season, thus correcting the image of Croatia as an exclusively summer destination.

After the opening and the welcoming words, Full Professor Ivo Banac held a speech entitled „Independent Republic of Croatia: more than two decades of an unfinished revolution, 1991-2014“.

The aim of this interdisciplinary an international congress is to compare the so-called transition in the countries of Mid-Eastern Europe from different national and Pan-European viewpoints and from different fields of social and humanistic sciences.
