Delegacy of Rectors’ Conference Visited Krakow


His Excellency Pawel Wlodarczyk, honorary consul of the Republic of Croatia in Krakow, invited the delegacy of the Rectors' Conference of the Republic of Croatia, and organised their meeting with the leaders of eminent Krakow universities and other distinguished members of the Krakow public, on the 11th and 12th May 2015.

On the first day of their visit, the delegacy of rectors and representatives of Croatian universities consisting of prof. dr. sc. Pero Lučin, prof. dr. sc. Damir Boras, prof. dr. sc. Šimun Anđelinović, prof. dr. sc. Željko Turkalj, prof. dr. sc. Alfio Barbieri, prof. dr. sc. Leonardo Marušić, prof. dr. sc. Alen Soldo, prof. dr. sc. Valter Boljunčić, prof. dr. sc. Emilio Marin, prof. dr. sc. Boris Trogrlić and Paula Pavletić, prof., participated in the conference “The Development of Krakow Universities during the Decade of Poland’s Membership in the EU”. During the conference, the representatives of distinguished Krakow universities (AGH - the University of Science and Technology, Jagiellonian University, the University of Economics) presented their experiences in using European funds, creating the necessary conditions for further cooperation. Her Excellency Andrea Bekić, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Poland, cordially greeted the Croatian delegacy and assisted in establishing contacts with their Polish colleagues.

On the same day, the delegacy of the Rectors’ Conference met His Eminence Stanislaw Dziwisz, Cardinal and High Chancellor of the Pontifical University of John Paul II. His Eminence acted as a personal secretary of Pope John Paul II, and has also proven to be a great friend of the Republic of Croatia and its people. The members of the delegacy met the mayor of Krakow, Mr Jacek Majchrovski, on the occasion of presenting the medal of the Order of Danica Hrvatska with the portrait of Ruđer Bošković to Full professor Antoni Cetnarowicz, a notable historian and professor at Jagiellonian University. The medal was awarded by Her Excellency Andrea Bekić.

On the second day in Krakow, the delegacy members visited Solaris, the largest synchrotron in not only Poland, but also in this part of Europe. It operates within the Jagiellonian University's premises. The delegacy also attended the ceremony for the 651st anniversary of Jagiellonian University, during which the Rector, Full Professor Wojciech Nowak, awarded an honorary doctorate to an esteemed British sociologist Professor Anthony Giddens. At the end of their visit, the representatives of two distinguished Polish companies presented the possibility of business cooperation with the universities by using European funds for the universities’ modernisation and technical development.

The representatives of Croatian universities have used their visit to Krakow for gathering experience from their Polish colleagues and for achieving an agreement on cooperation in using European funds.
